Bamboo is the fastest-growing land plant on earth and is not just for Pandas! The pulp of the bamboo grass is used to create an environmentally friendly bamboo fabric. A naturally luxurious textile with many excellent properties - Here are 4 interesting facts to know about bamboo fabrics.

Soft and Resilient
Bamboo may grow as tall as a tree, but it is a fact, a giant grass with shallow roots, a bit like a lawn. The bamboo grass is pulped - a process that separates the thin silky threads of this cellulose fibre. These threads are naturally smooth and round, as they do not need to be processed using harsh chemicals; this makes them incredibly sumptuous and soft to the touch.

The threads are spun together to create a long-lasting silky-smooth fabric that becomes softer with each wash.  The fibres feel finer than Egyptian cotton and ensure a gentle touch to the skin, unlike many fabrics, which can feel scratchy and cause irritation to delicate skin. The material is increasingly chosen by people with sensitive skin, eczema or allergic reactions to other fibres.

Antibacterial and Odour-resistant
Bamboo has many exceptional properties, one of which is being an antibacterial fabric. This makes the material inhospitable to parasites such as dust mites, bed bugs and microorganisms, which may wish to share your space!

Bamboo fabric also contains an antimicrobial enzyme. Which naturally repels bacteria that can irritate the skin and cause unpleasant odours. These enzymes reduce the need to use harsh chemicals when washing your fabric to remove odours that may build up over time.

A Sustainable Resource
Bamboo is quick growing and can grow nearly 3ft per day, enriching the soil around it as it grows. It can also be grown organically without the need for pesticides, fertilisers and herbicides, as it is naturally resistant to pests and disease. This resistance helps to keep the growing areas and factories free from harmful toxins and chemicals that could harm people, rivers and the earth.

As well as being a sustainable resource bamboo can also help the environment by absorbing 30% more greenhouse gases than hardwood trees.

A fabric For All Seasons
Sometimes it can feel like we have all seasons in one week, with sudden warm spells or drops in temperature. Bamboo bedding fabric is incredibly breathable due to the tiny gaps it contains. These gaps create airflow, aid ventilation and intuitively react to your body's temperature, helping to keep you cool in the summer and cosy and warm in the winter.

As well as being the fastest-growing land plant, bamboo can be used to create an incredibly versatile fabric with many uses. It is gentle enough for delicate skin, will keep you cool in summer and warm in winter and is also great for the environment. It keeps the people who produce it, the rivers and the surrounding areas free from toxins and pollutants, which is all rather impressive for a piece of grass! There are very few fabrics that can beat it.
