A groundbreaking initiative to revolutionize the weaving sector in Belagavi is underway with the establishment of an advanced Electric Loom Service Center. Textile Minister Shivanand Patil, said this project aims to empower the weaving community through cutting-edge training, skill development, and job creation opportunities.
Laid on Wednesday at Belagavi’s industrial area, the foundation stone marks the beginning of a ₹2.21 crore project that promises modernization and resource provision for weavers across the district and neighboring regions in North Karnataka. Minister Patil announced that the center would provide advanced loom technology training, yarn and fabric testing facilities, and support modernization efforts.
Currently, Belagavi district operates 23,200 power looms, 185 air-jet looms, and 3,900 rapier looms—all of which will benefit from the new facility. The center will be equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, including air-jet, water-jet, and rapier looms integrated with electronic jacquard systems, designed to enhance productivity and product quality.
High-level training programs will help weavers adopt these technologies, enabling them to meet evolving industry demands and improve the quality of their output. Neighboring districts will also have access to the center’s resources, further extending its impact.
The event was chaired by Belagavi (South) MLA Abhay Patil and graced by Textile Commissioner K. Jyoti, Karnataka State Textile Infrastructure Development Corporation Managing Director S. Prakash, and other dignitaries. The project is slated for timely completion, heralding a new era of growth and innovation for the regional weaving industry.
