The Chinese Textile Industry is famously known for its advanced technologies and stringent quality checks. Their product and quality ranges have become international benchmarks for many textile markets across the globe. With the onset of promoting domestic markets in India, the textile industry has begun taking numerous steps towards this through in-house productions, exporting products and services, and so much more. One such step is replicating Chinese grade productions in India, and the one company that has been excelling at this is Birla Advanced Knits Pvt. Ltd. A joint venture of Grasim Industries and Century Textiles & Ind. Ltd.

Birla Advance Knits is creating MMCF (manmade cellulosic fibres such as lyocell, modal, viscose, etc.) based fabrics in India. A concept very famous in China and a very fresh concept in India. With a state-of-the-art production unit in Gujarat, they manufacture close to 20 tonnes per day - 15 dyed and 5 printed in variations of lyocell, modal, viscose and their blends with cotton, polyester and nylon. Birla Advanced Knits launched this venture in April 2023 through their commercial production. Their dedicated team travels across the globe to observe and understand the trending innovations in the market every season and bring them to the table for their customers.

Their state-of-the-art manufacturing unit has top of the line machinery such as knitting machines from Mayer & CIE (single jersey, interlock, Ribs and Fleece), soft flow machines from Brazzoli (Italy), robotic colour kitchen from Lawer (Italy), Stenters from Bruckner (Germany), printing machine from Zimmer (Austria), laser engraving from Stork (Austria) and so on. They have a completely energy-based plant which uses gas for heating processes and steam from agro based boilers.

The purpose of launching this project was to increase the demand chain for MMCF based fabrics in India through domestic production instead of Chinese imports. Their plant is called the Center of Excellence in Knits (COEK) because this is the only plant that manufactures MMCF based fabrics in India as of now. This means there is a very scarce skill set available in India for this kind of product, but they are working towards improving the supply chain in India. Additionally, they are also exporting their fabrics to Sri Lanka, Kenya and Vietnam.

A rather new company with such a promising future seems to be doing wonders for not just themselves but also for the Indian textile industry. Given its stellar product profile, state of the art infrastructure and organisation structure, Birla Advanced Knits Pvt. Ltd., is definitely bringing a huge change to the Indian textile industry. It is always refreshing and rather a proud moment to see Indian manufacturers set their footprints in the international markets with in-house productions and international grade quality products.
