Tysons Corner, Va. – Consumers’ perceptions of value were reflected in a recent USA Today/Blueprint poll that examined which major brands have the fairest pricing for their products.

Among the 10 large retailers that consumers could rate, Costco took the lead spot with 92.7% of consumers citing the club store for having fair prices. Amazon (87.9%), Walmart (87.9%), Ikea (80.7%) and Home Depot (79%) rounded out the Top 5.

The poll also looked at how consumers feel about pricing in general.

Nearly half (43%) said they feel angry on a weekly basis about how products are priced, with 95% agreeing they get upset about pricing from time to time.

Still, consumers are onboard with paying higher prices, even if the idea makes them unhappy. The leading reasons they gave were: quality of the product (41%), urgent situation or no patience to price shop (23%) and no other options (20%).

Of the four major product categories tracked, home and appliance brands were considered the most fairly priced by an average of 71.9% of consumers, just behind electronics, which averaged 72.4%. Apparel and autos averaged about 67% for fairness.

Within the home and appliances sector — which tracked everything from personal care products and kitchen equipment to major appliances and mattresses — Ikea ranked ninth, with 79.9% of consumers believing they offered fair prices for their products. Farther down on the list were mattress/bedding brands: No. 24 Sealy (63.4%), No. 25 Casper (61.8%), No. 26 Serta (61.4%) and No. 30 Purple (48.8%).

In the overall list that covered all products in the four categories, Ikea was the one furniture or bedding brand to crack the Top 25, coming in at 20th. At 89.2%, Sharpie, a producer of markers and highlighters, took the No. 1 spot.
