Six fire departments, including the Lenzing AG plant fire department, were alerted at around 8.30 am. Several emergency calls had been received, presumably from local residents.
Fire in tower
According to the provincial fire brigade command, the fire on the factory premises probably broke out in the area of a tower. The rescue team had to take an injured person to hospital with slight smoke inhalation. The fire was under control by late Friday morning. A search for possible embers was still underway at midday.
Fiber manufacturer with a loss of 600 million euros
Lenzing AG produces fibers for the textile industry. The company operates internationally and has its headquarters in the Upper Austrian district of Vöcklabruck, where around 3000 people are currently employed.
The company has recently experienced economic turbulence, with the annual result for 2023 showing a loss of almost 600 million euros. In mid-April, the listed fiber manufacturer added a "Chief Transformation Officer" to the Management Board to manage the crisis.
