Expands production to offer an alternative to China

Mumbai – Known for its woven and knitted fabrics, Creative Group is now also vertically integrated to produce microfiber bedding.

The mid-sized textiles conglomerate was already making poly yarns for its apparel division. With spinning and dying in place, in late 2021 the manufacturer began adding what would become roughly 200 water jets to round out its production capabilities.

Phase 1 was completed last summer, and Creative Group can now produce 15,000 microfiber sheet sets per day and 6 million per year.

“The whole mindset leads to change – because when people think about the India market, the think cotton. We started thinking in a China way,” said Ajesh Kabra, director and co-founder of the Creative Yarns division.

The manufacturer can produce GRS-certified (Global Recycle Standard) and traceable recycled poly at virgin poly cost. Rajeshkumar Goyal, deputy general manager for international marketing, said Creative Group is getting a strong reaction in the marketplace as accounts look to expand sourcing out of China.

“What we got from our retailers was everyone looking for a ‘China too’ option,” he said.

The microfiber production expansion took place at the company’s yarn facilities in Surat, a hub for poly and sari production. In addition to apparel, Creative also produces poly yarns for the carpeting trade.

“Creative Group is a one-stop shop,” said Rekha Gadhvi, a veteran U.S. product development and designer who works with the company on certain projects. “They have a vertical set-up with very high quality control and a dedicated team to do research and development.”

The new microfiber assortment, which debuted at Heimtextil in Germany a few weeks ago, includes sheet sets, duvet covers, filled comforters and quilts in both solid color and print options.
