Reliance Retail is in an exploratory stage of talks to bring Old Navy to India, three anonymous sources close to the matter told India Retailing. If the talks should result in an India launch for Old Navy, it will be the second brand from Gap Inc that Reliance Retail will retail in India.
According to India Retailing’s sources, Reliance Retail could also bring Gap Inc brand Banana Republic to retail in India. Gap Inc’s four brands comprise Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, and Athleta, a woman’s active wear brand.
Reliance Retail and Gap Inc signed a partnership agreement in 2020 after Gap Inc terminated its agreement with Arvind Fashions. Then, Reliance Retail and Gap Inc signed a long-term franchise agreement in 2022. This gives Reliance Retail the rights to retail Gap products in brick-and-mortar standalone stores, departments store chains, and through online sales channels in India.
Old Navy launched its first ever store in 1994 in California, US. The brand currently counts over 1,200 brick-and-mortar stores across the world, according to its website, and offers clothing for men, women, and children in the mid- to premium segment of the market.
