Los Angeles — Ruggable, the direct-to-consumer washable rug brand, laid off about 100 of its employees on Friday, Jan. 27.
In a statement provided to Furniture Today, Ruggable said: “On Jan. 27, we made the difficult decision to part ways with about 100 members of our global corporate team. This outcome was driven by an internal restructuring to ensure our business will remain strongly positioned in today’s challenging economic environment. We are incredibly appreciative of our team’s contributions to Ruggable.”
The company, founded by Jeneva Bell in 2010, joins a growing list of DTC retailers, including Wayfair and Amazon, that have experienced difficulties of late as consumer demand softens.
Among Ruggable employees posting the news of their job loss on LinkedIn were a former product and operations leader, a copywriter, a consumer insights specialist, a product designer and a logistics professional.
Ruggable innovated with the two-piece washable rug system and has expanded over the years with new products and partnerships, including lines with designers Jonathan Adler and Iris Apfel.
