Sustainability, a topic widely discussed and a paramount global concern, takes centre stage in contemporary discourse. The textile industry, renowned for its extensive water usage and significant waste output, has prompted a wave of pioneering efforts in textile innovation. Among these innovators is Weaving Vibes, a Mumbai-based company specialising in hemp and bamboo fabric manufacturing. They produce and print eco-friendly fabrics for apparel, accessories, home furnishings and beyond. Delve into an enlightening conversation with Mr.Shripat Jagirdar, Founder of Weaving Vibes, as we explore the cutting-edge textile options offered by this esteemed brand.

“Our manufacturing unit is in Bhiwandi and it has a capacity of producing 2.5 lakh mts a month. It is an end-to-end unit with fabric manufacturing, eco printing and packaging under one roof.” says Mr. Shripat. Sustainability has a lot to do with traceability and transparency, so the company has an ethical policy of sharing the complete details of all the mills, production units, testing labs and everything else involved in the manufacturing of the fabric with the client. Through this, the client has complete knowledge of how and where the fabric is being processed.

“We manufacture for three industries - apparel (menswear, womenswear and kidswear), home furnishings (cushion covers, curtains, upholstery, etc.) and the accessory industry, which has backpacks, shopping bags, shoes and variations of these. The accessory industry is exploding with hemp, as we have a huge variety within just backpacks - from travel bags, ransacks, to school bags” discusses Mr. Shripat.

Every manufacturing unit has a certain MOQ (minimum order quantity); however, Weaving Vibes has no such policy and offers even 2 mts of fabric from their stock to new entrepreneurs, students and freshmen in the field of fashion and textiles to begin with. Setting them apart in the textile industry, not only through their innovative process of turning hemp and bamboo into wearable fabric but even through their ethical values set in place for enduring relationships.

Referring to the state of the market for their fabric, he said, "Hemp is in competition with linen because of the way it feels, looks and falls. Hemp is, however, softer, naturally UV resistant and retains colour better. The hemp industry is currently experiencing a boom in the export market, primarily for clothing, due to the stigma and reluctance associated with cannabis and marijuana in India. But it is very different from that and we think Indian markets are moving in the direction of accepting it, so we think it has great potential here as well."

This was the first time that Weaving Vibes participated in the F&A Show in Bangalore, organised by M/s. S S Textile Media Pvt. Ltd., and they believe they should have participated in its previous editions as well. Having received an amazing response and met many potential buyers, Mr. Shripat believes the city is greatly inclined towards sustainability, making it a great market for their product. In a world where green innovation meets cultural apprehension, Weaving Vibes continues to thread the needle of progress, stitching a sustainable tomorrow.
