Mumbai: Welspun, one of the largest home textiles manufacturers in India, is setting up the first of a series of pillow manufacturing units it plans to operate in the U.S., a $12. 5 million investment to onshoring.

The company’s first fully automated pillow manufacturing unit in Ohio is expected to be operational by the end of September, with a production capacity of 6.7 million pillows annually. At full capacity this facility is projected to generate an additional $50 million in revenue, further solidifying Welspun’s presence in the US market.

The company plans to establish two additional automated pillow manufacturing units elsewhere in the U.S. In the near future, the company’s goal is to manufacture approximately 35 million units of pillows collectively from the three North American factories. The facilities will have the ability to fill both sleep and decorative pillows.

“Welspun’s strategic expansion into the U.S. pillow manufacturing sector signifies a strong dedication to supporting our retail and hospitality partners, concurrently fostering job opportunities while meeting evolving market demands,” said Keyur Parekh, CEO of Global Business, Welspun Living Limited.

Welspun’s decision to launch U.S. pillow production was carefully timed, rooted in strategic dialogues with major North American stakeholders, he added.

“These discussions paved the way for category expansion opportunities within the domestic pillow manufacturing sector, tapping onshore opportunities near to our customers and signaling a broader expansion vision for the years ahead,” he said.

“Our goal is to provide customers with a diverse range of choices to suit their preferences and style, enhancing their ‘sleep experience’ with innovative and quality products,” said Parekh.

Welspun’s basic bedding portfolio includes sleep pillows, pillow covers, mattress pads, comforters and blankets. It supplies to the retail, omni, institutional, hospitality and e-commerce channels.

In addition to its private label emphasis, Welspun’s basic bedding brands include Martha Stewart, Charisma, Allerwell, WelHome, Kindlier and Welspun Basics, with more expected in the future.
